Join the Fight Against Sickle Cell Disease
Black donors are essential for sickle cell patients who need closely matched blood types to prevent dangerous alloimmunization and ensure treatment success. Patients with sickle cell disease often develop antibodies to standard blood, requiring blood from donors with similar genetic backgrounds, which is more common in Black donors. A diverse donor pool is crucial for meeting this need and providing safer, more effective transfusions for these patients.
  • More than 100,000 people in the United States have sickle cell disease.
  • Sickle cell disease affects 1 out of every 365 Black or African American births.
  • People with sickle cell disease may need as many as 100 units of blood each year.
  • Your blood donations could help alleviate the symptoms of someone living with sickle cell disease or even help save their life.
If you are not eligible or interested in donating, please encourage your friends, family, and colleagues to donate!
Save time with RapidPass®. Complete your pre-donation reading and health history at RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass or with the Red Cross Blood Donor App the morning of your appointment
Eligibility questions? Call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit RedCrossBlood.org.

Eligible donors with types O, B negative, or A negative blood are encouraged to make a Power Red donation at this blood drive.
    • Power Red donors give a concentrated dose of red blood cells during a single donation, allowing them to maximize their impact.
    • During this type of donation, red blood cells are separated from other blood components, and the plasma and platelets are safely and comfortably returned to the donor.
Identification is required.
